History: Wise County Youth Volleyball was founded in 1999 to provide a positive learning environment for fourth, fifth and sixth grade boys and girls. The league strives to provide equal opportunities for each player so that everyone can learn the fundamentals of Volleyball. The 2012 season marked the beginning of the fourth grade participants, though there were not enough fourth graders to form their own branch and therefore played alongside the fifth grade players. The 2018 season saw the successful addition of 3rd grade, with 3rd and 4th grade being branched together.
Volleyball Season: Our season begins in February and ends with a weekend long tournament the beginning of May, in which all teams participate. Each team will play 2-3 games per weekend, on Friday's and/or Saturday's. The number of games played each weekend is determined by the number of teams made. All players who sign up and fulfill the sign up fee and fundraiser obligations are eligible to play. This is not a club team, therefore no try-outs are held.
Teams: All teams that are not returning from the previous year are comprised of players picked in a blind draw. Coaches do not have the opportunity to see the player's name before that player has been selected for that team. This ensures that "stacking" teams does not occur and that the level of play is equal for everybody. The abuse of selecting players for a team, such as trying to stack teams, is PROHIBITED and will be strictly enforced. Due to this policy, WCYV has instituted the "Out of County Clause", which is detailed below.
Fundraisers: All players must participate in the fundraiser unless they have chosen to "opt-out" and have so marked in the available space on the player's sign up form. The fundraiser that each player will participate in is the sales of World's Finest Chocolate Bars. Each player is responsible for selling at least 60 bars, but are encouraged to sell more. At the completion of the fundraiser, the three players with the most candy sales of each branch of the league will receive a monetary prize.
Out of County Clause: Due to unsportsmanlike behavior in the past, WCYV enforces a strict Out of County policy. This is to ensure that all teams are fair and equal. As in the past, all players will participate in the blind draw in exception of returning teams. The change in the policy is:
Players that attend schools outside of the Wise County school district, or that live outside of the WCYV service area* will not be able to return as a team. If the town outside of the service area does not have at least 16 eligible players to sign up on time, the players from that town will enter the blind draw with a town of the player's choosing that is within the service area.
*Service area is defined as Decatur, Bridgeport, Boyd, Paradise, Chico, and Alvord.
